I was in Faversham in Kent on Wednesday to meet Steph Fuller, the newly appointed Creative Enabler for Creative People and Places Swale and Medway. Steph, who previously worked for Arts Council England South East, updated me on the programme to increase arts engagement in Swale and Medway which has a theme of laboratories and experimentation. The ‘Small Experiment’ strand will be launched on 17 June: grants of up to £2,000 will be available to individuals, arts organisations, voluntary groups and anyone else who wants to test the feasibility of an idea and share their findings. This funding will enable people to experiment with new methods of planning projects and involving local residents in activities. A total of £60,000 will be available in the first year. The ‘Community Catalyst’ strand offers grants of up to £5,000 to discover and support local “catalysts” and community “doers” and inspire them to connect a broader range of people in community activities, with £100,000 available in the first year of the programme.
